Female Hair Loss
Female hair loss affects almost 1 in 4 (that's 25%, or over 30 million in the USA alone). The psychological effects of hair loss in women must be 10 times as damaging as in men. Baldness in men is becoming more socially prevalent and 'accepted' , but hair loss in woman is not as well understood and can cause severe emotional stress for most women.
The cause of female hair loss can be attributed to a number of factors. Like in men, a major cause of hair loss in woman is Androgenetic Alopecia (pattern baldness), but women rarely go completely bald, they usually end up with a marked reduction in the density of hair in the affected areas of the scalp. Some linked causes to women’s pattern baldness are: Starting/Stopping the Birth Control Pill, period following child birth (post partum) or Pre-menopause/early menopause.
Another common cause of hair loss in woman is a condition knows as Telogen Effluvium. This condition is where a larger number of follicles than usual enter into resting phase of the hair growth cycle (Telogen phase). This can look very similar in appearance to pattern baldness. The most
common causes are: while on the birth control pill, postpartum, hormones, poor diet/crash dieting.
Although research on female hair loss to date has not been as thorough as in men, there are some very clear hair loss treatment for woman recommendations. The female hair loss treatment alternatives are:
- Hair vitamins - these products actually provide all the clinical proven vitamins and minerals required to help hair grow to its fullest and thickest, and at the same time they block DHT. So in effect they are like a DHT inmhibitor and a Growth Stimulant in the one product. An excellent example is HairScripts
- Growth Stimulants - these products artificially promote/stimulate hair growth, even while levels of DHT might still be high. Although they do not actually reverse the core problem of pattern baldness (increased DHT level) they certainly have been proven effective, even in FDA trials, especially 5% Minoxidil
- Hair and Scalp Cleaners - these products provide proper hair and scalp hygiene and nutrition. This is the first step to healthier, thicker, fuller hair.
- DHT Inhibitors - these products actually inhibit the level of DHT production, with the aim of keeping DHT at normal levels, to maintain normal hair growth thru the hair growth cycle. A perfect example is Propecia or you could try a herbal alternative Enhanced Anti Androgenetic Pill
