Thinning Hair
Thinning hair affects more than 50% of men and women by the time they reach middle age. The most common type of hair thinning is Androgenetic Alopecia (Pattern Hair Loss) which affects more than 40% of men, and can affect anywhere up to 40% of women, although the causes for thinning hair in woman differ than in men. Thinning hair woman can be the result of hormonal changes after say childbirth, menopause or when taking the birth control pill. In men, it is usually a case of the body producing too much DHT (Dihydrotestosterone).
Thinning hair treatment options are many and varied, and will depend upon a number of factors, such as type of hair loss and stage of hair loss. For men who have just begun to notice their hair is thinning, the most likely cause will be the over-production of DHT. A thinning hair product such as Propecia which actually inhibits the over-production of DHT is an obvious choice, but can be more effective when used in conjunction with a Growth Stimulant such as Rogaine to assist in a quicker turnaround from thinner hair to thicker / fuller hair growth.
Thinning hair products for women are similar to those available for men, but the causes of hair thinning in women are slightly different, so that's why we see a different approach. For women, the cause for thinning hair is typically because of a hormonal imbalance, which can alter the levels of DHT and alter the stage and length that hair travels through the hair growth cycle. So an approach that balances the scalp and promotes growth is the logical approach. A perfect example would be HairScripts. This product uses clinical proven vitamins and minerals required to help hair grow to its fullest. So you actually get a healthy scalp, DHT inhibitor and growth stimulation all in one.
